About this app
Cat Coat Planner is a free tool for breeders and enthusiasts who want to plan around cat coat color genetics. No account is needed, and your data stays on your own device.
What it does
- Parent Coats: calculates the kitten coat colors and their probabilities from the sire and dam coats.
- Target Coat: given a desired coat, finds sire and dam pairings among your registered cats that could produce it.
- Kitten Coats: narrows down the hidden factors the parents carry from the coats of kittens actually born.
- Calculation history, recalling registered cats, writing inference results back to a registered cat, and backup export and import.
How your data is handled
- Registered cats, calculation history, and settings are stored only in this browser (IndexedDB). Nothing is stored on a server.
- Only the fields needed for a calculation (coat colors, breed, carrier settings) are sent to the server, and they are not stored there.
- Usage is measured with cookie-free analytics (Vercel Web Analytics) that records only which features were used and count ranges. No personal identifiers or coat names are sent.
- Feedback you send is delivered to the operator's email. Please do not include personal information.
- When you change devices or lose data, export a backup from the Target Coat tab and import it later.
Assumptions and limits
- Results are probabilities computed from genotypes assumed from the coats you enter. They do not mean a genotype can be determined from appearance.
- This is not a substitute for DNA testing. Confirm with a test before important decisions; the tool is meant to support decisions before testing.
- Coats accepted for a breed in this tool are not necessarily the colors recognized by registries or shows. Nothing here guarantees eligibility.
- Tabby patterns (mackerel, classic, spotted, ticked) are inferred from the parents' coat names, not calculated from genotypes.
